Duane ‘Keffe D’ Davis sentenced to 40 years to life in Tupac Shakur’s murder
LAS VEGAS, NV — A judge in Las Vegas has sentenced Duane “Keffe D” Davis, 63, to 40 years to life in prison for the 1996 killing of rapper Tupac Shakur, one of the most famous unsolved cases in music history until his arrest.
A jury convicted Davis on Aug. 31. Prosecutors said the former gang leader provided the gun used in the drive-by shooting near the Las Vegas Strip on Sept. 7, 1996, after a fight earlier that night involving his nephew. Shakur died six days later.
Clark County District Judge Carli Kierny gave Davis 20 years to life for murder plus a consecutive 20 years to life for using a deadly weapon. “You don’t get to take a man from his family … and just walk away from it,” she said.
“This man’s life mattered,” Shakur’s half-sister, Sekyiwa Shakur, told the court. Davis said he plans to appeal.
