Brewers sweep Dodgers to reach first World Series since 1982

LOS ANGELES, CA — The Milwaukee Brewers are headed to the World Series for the first time since 1982 after beating the Los Angeles Dodgers 6-4 on Thursday to complete a four-game sweep of the National League Championship Series.

The Dodgers jumped to a 4-0 lead on a three-run homer by Shohei Ohtani, but Milwaukee tied the game in the fifth inning. Garrett Mitchell hit a go-ahead home run in the sixth, and Aaron Ashby closed it out with three scoreless innings. Jake Bauers was named series MVP.

The sweep ended the Dodgers’ bid for a third straight title and reversed last year’s result, when Los Angeles swept Milwaukee in the same round. “We weren’t coming in to play patty-cake,” Brewers manager Pat Murphy said.

Milwaukee, which won a major-league-best 103 games this season, opens the World Series at home on Oct. 23 against the winner of the American League series between Cleveland and Tampa Bay. It is the Brewers’ first National League pennant.
