Sen. Chris Murphy hospitalized after a stroke, expected to recover
BALTIMORE — Sen. Chris Murphy, a Connecticut Democrat, is being treated at Johns Hopkins Hospital after suffering a stroke, his office said Sunday.
Murphy, 53, reported numbness in his arm on Saturday afternoon and was taken to a local hospital, where doctors diagnosed the stroke. His chief of staff, Allison Herwitt, said he is awake and alert, that doctors are encouraged by his progress, and that his team is optimistic he will make a full recovery. His office did not say when he expects to return to work.
Murphy has served in the Senate since 2013 after representing Connecticut’s 5th Congressional District in the House. He is known for his work on health care and gun safety, and his name has been mentioned as a possible 2028 presidential candidate.
Sen. John Fetterman of Pennsylvania, who had a stroke during his 2022 campaign, wished Murphy a full and speedy recovery.
