Bipartisan senators urge Trump to reverse Russian diesel purchase deal

A bipartisan group of U.S. senators urged President Trump on Tuesday to reverse a deal to buy Russian diesel that had been under sanctions, arguing it would do little to bring down energy costs at home.

One summary said 12 senators described the deal as a betrayal of the people of Ukraine. Ukraine's president, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, said it would not lower fuel prices and blamed the war with Iran for rising diesel costs.

Trump said the same day that the United States is still sharing intelligence with Ukraine and working with Kyiv and Moscow to end the war. Zelenskyy has said the administration warned it could cut intelligence sharing unless Ukraine stopped long-range drone strikes on Russian oil refineries.

Fuel prices are a live political issue less than a month before the midterm elections.
